DSFE Course Credit Information
Participants in the full Data Science For Engineers (DSFE) series can receive 6 transcriptable credits from the University of Washington. To receive credit, you must declare your intent to take the courses for credit, get approved as a graduate non-matriculated (GNM) student, register for the courses (offered by UW Chemical Engineering) through the UW registration system managed by UW Continuum College, and complete all the courses with a passing grade.
Please note that the costs are slightly different when you are taking the course for credit. Rather than paying the posted GIX PLP rates, you will pay $2,667 for each UW course (CHEM E 545 and CHEME 546), as well as a $55 registration fee, a $33 tech fee (waived for Spring 2021), and a one-time GNM application fee of $75. In total you will pay about 75% of the PLP listed price. This is equivalent to the 25% discount on PLP courses that is offered to all current UW staff and students. If you have any questions about the registration process or need assistance, please contact GIX Professional Learning Programs.
STEP 1: SIGNUP FOR THE SERIES
Reserve your spot in the series and be sure to indicate your interest in credit so we can send you the department-approved registration form.
STEP 2: APPLY FOR GNM STATUS
Although there are no course prerequisites for the course series, you must demonstrate the following in order to receive graduate-level credits as a graduate-non-matriculated (GNM) student, as demonstrated through an unofficial transcript.
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution
- Have earned at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4-point scale) for the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits
When you’re ready, apply online to the UW Graduate School and enter the program name “Chemical Engineering/Chemical Engineering MS” on your application. Your application will be reviewed and approved by the department as soon as possible. To check on a decision on your application, log into the application site as a returning applicant.
There is a nonrefundable application fee of $75 for all GNM applications. The fee is subject to change and can be paid only online, using a MasterCard or Visa credit/debit cards. (For information about fee waivers, please click here).
When your GNM application has been approved, you will receive a notification and a request to set up a UW NetID.
STEP 3: REGISTER FOR THE UW COURSE

If you’d like to pay by credit card, do not include your credit card information in your e-mail. Instead, please call 206-543-2310 with the information. Click here to learn about payment options.
