The first floor is home to the main event space, which can hold nearly 200 people. The event space is equipped with a lectern, projector, two screens and a camera for live stream. The first floor also contains the AR/VR lab, multiple classrooms, and flexible meeting spaces, Tsinghua University’s offices, and Hyperproof, a cloud-based compliance software company.
The star of the second floor is the GIX makerspace, a fully-outfitted makerspace dedicated to meeting the needs of MSTI students, Consortium members, and GIX students. Led by a team of staff dedicated to teaching the tools, the space includes a wide variety of 3d printers, PCB lab, laser cutters, woodshop, and more. The makerspace pairs open access to professional-grade technology with customized learning experiences allowing for hardware development, fabrication and machining, and prototyping. The second floor is also home to four large classrooms with remote conferencing hardware in place, an 84″ Surface Hub, dry-erase walls and multiple projectors.
The third floor contains student desks, staff and faculty offices, and two additional companies part of the GIX community: Educative and Biscuit. Designed with open office concepts in mind, the expansive third floor allows for collaboration across the entire organization. The third floor also contains meeting spaces for GIX community use.
The Steve Ballmer Building is home to two tenant companies and has room to include more. This close proximity between education and industry provides unique opportunities for collaboration, hiring, and knowledge sharing.
